Hell yeah. We're a few days into the events now, and I've been having a ball. Hockey, big air, slopestyle, moguls, speed skating, biathlon, and on and on. I love that I can watch the games live, or replays of every event for free on CBC. I love winter sports! Got into a few of them as a kid and teen - hockey was obviously the big one, but also variations of downhill skiing, and some cross-country. Snowmobiling, sledding, and snowshoeing aren't events of course, but they were also winter activities I enjoyed back in the day. Naturally I am cheering for Canada and Finland, especially in hockey, but the early games have been concerning! In their second game, the Canadian women's team lost all-star Marie-Philip Poulin to injury, and then got absolutely dominated in their 0-5 shutout loss to Team USA the next day. Bad ! I'm still pretty confident we'll get our traditional CAN-USA showdown for the gold medal, but if Poulin can't return, it'll be tough to eke out a win. I hope this isn't how her Olympics career ends, as she's 34 now. If things don't work out this time, ideally she can return for one more go at it. My early takeaways: Overrated: Curling (I can't stand the screaming) Underrated: Slopestyle skiing Favorite: Snowboarding Big Air Least Favorite: The annoying drone buzzing on all the skiing event broadcasts !! Star of the week for me: Zoi Sadowski-Synnott - New Zealand snowboarder who snagged a silver medal in the big air event the other day, and was also a delight to watch. That's all I really wanted to post about today. It's sports time! I am going to be a complete Olympics sicko for the next little while.
