Writing Life Update, Sports, Fast Food Nonsense

Happy Spooky Szn !

​There's been a few things going on this week worth reporting on. Well, to me, anyway. The big one is that I received the edit suggestions for Thaw by the editor of the upcoming Inky Bones Press anthology Of Beasts & Bones. I'm generally a pretty clean writer, so there were just a few suggestions, and one clarification needed on a word I'd chosen. I agreed with an instance of word repetition, and another suggestion where I had to consider whether a person opening a door (with another person behind them) would also be the one closing that door. I can imagine both scenarios making sense, and when that's the case, I'll just defer to the editor.

​In other writing news, I'm up to 115 rejections for the year now, and also An Android Story, Literally has exploded in popularity, racking up some 350 more readings over the past 5 months. Awesome that so many people are reading this story, as I feel like a mix of comedy and spec-fic (while heavy on dialogue) are some of my greatest strengths.

My goal in this writing life has been a simple one - to write stories that people like me would enjoy reading. Happy to see there's plenty of people like me out there !

I've got to shout out our Toronto Blue Jays, destroying the Yankees with a 3-1 series win in the ALDS. It's a lot of fun to be excited about baseball again, and this clip had me laughing out loud:

Hockey season has begun, and I've got my fantasy team drafted. I think my team sucks, but so does everyone else at this point in October. It's too early to tell who is going to thrive, and who is going to stink (with perhaps the exception of the new Red Wings goalie John Gibson, who gave up 5 goals on 13 shots tonight. Oof). I'll be sure to waste some space on this topic in my journal throughout the fall and into the spring.

My last nonsense update will be fast food sicko-related:

I just learned the other day that McDonald's Canada made the McVeggie a permanent menu item back in early September. I'm kinda shocked that I did not know of this much earlier. I've been waiting for this development for many years, hoping that the PLT would succeed. But alas, here it failed.

Burger King has had the Impossible Whopper available for a while now, and A&W has their Beyond Burger. Oh, and Harvey's has a great veggie burger, gotta shout them out, too.

But yes, finally, McDonald's has caved to the meatless sandwich demand, and so for the first time in over a decade, I ordered McDonald's! I got the fries and drink and the Monopoly gambling stuff and everything !

This is a really good sandwich. I'll call it a chicken burger alternative, as it's a deep-fried patty on an excellent bun, with only shredded lettuce and a mayo-esque kind of sauce. It's absolutely not a hamburger substitute, which I would've preferred. But it's great at what it does best.

I'm going to rate the McVeggie a solid 4/5. I will absolutely order this again, and the fast food gambling incentive with Monopoly will only aid me in my descent into McDonald's depravity.
